HS2 INTERCHANGE
Solihull is to see a new fully integrated High Speed 2 (HS2) Interchange Station & an elevated Automated People Mover (APM)
Designed to maximise natural daylight and ventilation, with a roof able to capture and reuse rainwater, the station will incorporate energy-efficient tech and LED lighting to become the first railway station globally to achieve the BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ certification.
This will put HS2 Interchange into the top 1% of buildings in the UK for eco-friendliness.
Becoming the best-connected place in the UK by rail, road, and air, with customers able to reach London Euston in 38 minutes, construction on the station has begun, and will comprise two 415m long platforms and two central high-speed through lines.
It will seamlessly link the nearby National Exhibition Centre (NEC), International Station, and Birmingham Airport (BHX) via an elevated automated people mover (APM), which will be able to carry up to 3,900 passengers per hour in each direction (1.2 miles), every 3-6 minutes.
The APM and cable system will be maintained for a 25-year period.
