Ambitious Plans Approved for New Bond Street

Birmingham City Council’s planning committee has this morning voted through ambitious outline plans for up to 762 apartments on land around the forthcoming HS2 station.

The mixed-use scheme, brought forward by Homes England as part of their Accelerated Delivery Pilot, is made up of two distinct land parcels on New Bond Street in the Bordesley area of the city.

The large-scale redevelopment will completely redefine the area into an inclusive & sustainable new canalside community, with the Grand Union Canal firmly at its heart.

Five buildings of up to 15 storeys, complete with 1-3 bedroom homes, commercial spaces and public and private amenity facilities, are to be built.

There is also a promise to provide a policy compliant 35% level of affordable housing.

With consent now granted, the site, subject to a tendering process, will be sold freehold to a developer intending to enter into a build contract for the site.

Works are expected to start in 2023 following a period of demolition of the remaining structures on-site, before completing in 2027.
